Hey, cowgirl...Satchmo doesn't...

...offend me personally.

However, I have this idea that the man's name/and/or nickname, "satchmo," had somehow over the years become a racial epithet synonymous with others more blatant to describe 'people of color' (of one specific color, actually) ... and that the term took on a whole new meaning, because of cultural or sociological influences on its 'definition.'

Sorta like "Aunt Jemima" style slave nannies in New Orleans in the 60s -- remember those dolls? On a vacation trip there when I was eight or nine -- something like that -- hugely popular souvenirs for kids were dolls -- black nannies -- have you had that experience in your lifetime?

This is NOT the case, is what you're telling me with the 'Satchmo' moniker? At least, in your demographic? Including locale, which I believe you've said is in deep South?

Cool!

I'm glad to see things have changed in the past 100 - 150 years.

Thanks for the info.

PS: If I named a horse here named "Satchmo," nobody would know what the hell significance it had unless I could translate into Spanish. <g> Which, unfortunately, I can't do as I wasted six years studying French in HS/college ...

hahahahahahahahahahaha
