I'm not certain, but I think the GPS (or equivalent position locating) function is built in to the current Qualcomm G* phone. There is a set of menus not accessible to retail user (at least, not revealed in handbook) and I think positioning is there. The only reason I was made aware of it was a tech session I had when I first purchased the phone and the engineers had me access a series of menus in an attempt to remedy a technical glitch. Can anyone confirm?

It would seem the phone must have this capability since G* agreements with countries and service providers require the phone identify the users physical location. I recall that ability as being described as accurate to within tolerances similar to GPS.
