Samsung Electronics said yesterday it will invest a combined 12.5 trillion won ($ 11.21 billion) in the expansion of its semiconductor production lines for the coming three years.

In a report of accounts during the first half of this year, Samsung, the largest semi-conductor maker in Korea, said it will put 6.66 trillion won into newly constructed No. 10-11 production lines at its factory in Hwasung, Kyonggi Province. And it will expand the TFT-LCT production line at Chonan factory in South Chungchong Province by the end of year 2002.

Samsung will also refurbish the existing No. 2-9 semi-conductor production lines and their research and development equipment by investing 5.87 trillion won over the three years.
