It is classically a resource that is used by instructions that are ready for execution, and that require it (like add or subtract). It's not part of the pipeline at all. The faster it can get instructions requiring it completed, the faster it becomes available for upcoming instructions in the pipe that need it. That is goodness. Period. Tony
