Tim,

I like this global warming discussion. I used to be a geologist, and it is fun to delve into the details.

It would be easy to tell if melting has occurred at the North Pole. By coring down into the ice, any discontinuities caused by melting would be visible as a disruption in the layering of the ice.

And who was looking 50 million years ago?

Tim,

I know that many think the issue of global warming is an enviromentalist's melodrama. However the evidence is mounting that something serious is happening. It seems to me we need to err on the side of caution and take some strong steps now rather than have a whole bunch of regrets 50 years from now.
