Yes- they still have that no-grade system, though it is being challenged every year now and is likely to chnage in the next year or two according to our little tour guide. You can request a grade if you want, but still get the written evaluation.
I don't know how hung up they are on grades- but they have this kind of grid thing- you are pretty much guaranteed acceptance if you have a certain GPA, SAT< and ACT. ANd he'd be ok if his GPA weren't so awful. The lower your GPA then the higher the SAT and ACT need to be. If they had allowed for the weighted scores on his honors, he'd be fine.
I don't understnad the reasoning behind this.
