Bill,

Good to see you back here.

Like you, I took a bit of a hiatus for a few months, mostly in order to deal with a new job. Unfortunately, the job didn't work out, but I learned a lot.

Like you, I took somewhat of a beating earlier this year, somewhat ameliorated by the fact that I sold quite a few of my holdings in the February runup and never got back in. Still, I'm net down for the year and not anticipating the kind of market in which I'll make it all back as quickly as I lost it.

However, I'm with you on the belief that research is going to matter a lot more going forward. Now that I'm free of the 14-hour startup workdays, I'm hitting the books (figuratively) myself.

I think the second half of the year will be very interesting. Personally, I'm still staying a bit light. I think there will be a fairly horrendous tax-loss selloff in many internet/tech names in late October (end of year for many funds) but that many of the stocks left standing at that point could be the ones to own. At that point, the election picture could be a lot clearer as well which could provide some direction as to what sectors to own.

It'll be interesting...

Bill--Guess who is into fuel cell technology and nanoparticle technology? Give you a hint, they once made a centrifugal jig for mining, toxic waste disposal, and also seemed to put a good spin on separating out their investors dollars.
They now trade under ALTI instead of ALTIF. The words have changed but the tune is the same.
All the Best
