RE:"Nonetheless, "If AMD can catch up with the P4 in terms of clock speed, a 1.5-GHz Athlon will definitely be faster than a Pentium 4 at 1.5-GHz" on a number of applications, he added. "

If a 50% Mhz speed increase gets a only gets 20% performance increase amd Athy can get to 1.4 Ghz by year end...Intel had be working on some new benchmarks...which I'm sure they are.
The problem arises if Willy can scale well past 1.5 Ghz...
Which according to Scumbria it may well do...
OTOH, if Willy needs the ALU and it's the limiting factor for speed then it will get real interesting...

nice catch - no wonder intel is making it application specific that is "NetBurst". The problem is that most of the commercial market places very little emphasis on internet. Unless "NetBurst" would show clear performance gains amd might have a better chance at corp market now.

In a preview of the chip at the company's headquarters, technicians showed how a
Pentium 4 computer can rapidly render, or draw, 3D images downloaded from the
Internet. That sort of processing power could make it easy for sellers on eBay to post
virtual representations of their products, for example.

Jeez, how long is this "Netburst" of marchitecture BS going to be raining down on us? It'd be nice if it were just restricted to IDF. Sadly, I predict another 40 days and nights at least. I think Elmer's perpetual blathering about the gigamines boxed and ready to ship at the last IDF was funnier, though.

Cheers, Dan.
