The savings and loan fiasco was exacerbated by guilty Senators who all squirmed out of harm's way. A few were Republicans but most were Democrats. The President of the United States had nothing to do with federal insurance on S&Ls and "savings banks." BTW, it was good he was working on air traffic control then or our airports would be in an even worse mess than they are today -- due in no small part to mismanagement by the Clinton/Gore Administration of the FAA.
