Compaq AlphaServer GS320 Lead
Business Intelligence Benchmarks; New AlphaServer Systems
300GB TPC-H Performance Beats HP and IBM

HOUSTON, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today
reported that the recently announced Compaq AlphaServer GS320 system with Tru64 UNIX has taken
the lead in the 300GB TPC-H benchmark for RISC-based systems. This result underscores the new
AlphaServer GS Series' superior ability to perform complex queries in real-time, allowing customers to
gain competitive advantage though data warehousing, data mining and on-line analytical processing
(OLAP) tools. The AlphaServer GS320 has been shipping since May 2000.

The AlphaServer GS320 system with 32 Alpha CPUs, 64 GB memory, and 3.3 TB storage in 8 Compaq
StorageWorks ESA 12000 Storage Arrays, achieved 4,951.9 Composite QphH (Queries-per-Hour) in the
TPC-H test. The TPC-H benchmark models decision support systems that examine large volumes of
data, execute highly complex queries; and a system's ability to efficiently execute complex ad hoc
queries, testing the system's ability to respond rapidly. This TPC-H result underscores the superior
performance of the AlphaServer GS320 over competition. The system, running Compaq Tru64 UNIX
Version 5.1 and Informix XPS 8.30 FC3, provided 33 percent better performance than an HP 9000 V2500
at 13 percent lower cost. When compared with IBM's 64 CPU result on a per-CPU basis, the Composite
metric is 35% better. Together, the AlphaServer GS Series and Informix XPS provide extremely high
availability and superior manageability, for single servers and systems clustered with Compaq
TruCluster software. Below is a table listing the configurations and availability of those systems.

System CPUs QphH $/QphH Database Avail. Date
IBM NUMA-Q 2000 64 334.4 $612 DB2 UDB 7.1 8/15/2000
Compaq GS320 32 4951.9 $983 Informix 8.30FC2 8/31/2000
HP 9000 V2500 32 3714.9 $1,119 Informix 8.30FC2 12/17/1999

With 35 min to go .... it looks like CPQ could end another day as a slight ++ ... before FOMC meetings the market usually goes higher, maybe the FMs are just waiting for the final 20 min today to start their buying ?

currently @ 33 1/8 (even)
