I don't see much problem here. As it was mentioned in the post, IBM is desperate to gain some share in the app server market.

IBM's best days in the middleware market are long gone after CICS. In the past 10-15 years, they tried several products to compete .. all in vain.

I hear people talking about competition.

10 years ago, there were a number of relational databases Informix, Sybase, and Oracle. How about now? How about the promised rise of OODBMS and the demise of RDBMS?

Same type of revolution is happening in the middlware market. There are a whole bunch of players trying their niche in different areas.

With the depth in the technology (wish some one publish a good evaluation of their competition) and fast increasing user base, it is becoming clear that BEAS is emerging as the leader. This is similar to Oracle in DBs, and Cisco in Networking. If things continue the way it is .. BEAS' mktcap cap should touch $100B in 2 years.
