As the gear improves, i.e. better fiber, more powerful lasers, more subtle Rx devices, the distinctions between MAN, WAN and LAN will blur. The PHY standards from both NT and CSCO will be incorporated. What enterprise needs to do is get a 850nm standard in as well, else the end user is still stuck behind some relatively low bandwidth bandaids like FDDI, Fiber Channel and Class 5 copper. Did you see the latest from LR on CORV? 4,000km verified test at OC-192. Hot diggedy, this might be a real company after all. And the LR article implies that the Algety secret sauce hasn't even been applied yet. This is getting interesting. R.
