<<Many of the buyers of SEG in recent months have been hedging their buys with short sales of VRTS, thus creating what I think will be a fairly large pool of buyers once the deal goes through,>>

This one puzzles me. If you bought SEG and shorted VRTS to capture either the "valuation gap" (pre-deal) or the "premium" (post-deal announcemnt), and the deal goes thru, and you still hold SEG shares when it does, what you get for those shares is some cash and some VRTS stock....which covers your short, i.e. no need to buy more. What am I missing here?

<<Many of the "value" oriented holders probably have already sold in the 60s and 70s>>
I wish....I chickened out and bailed at 56.....and I would have done so even earlier had I noticed, but fortunately I was out of market contact for a while, but not long enough :o)
