<<ish I thought there was a mechanical corn husker that did the entire operation and threw the corn into a bin' ???>>

Yes there is in a way. It's called a combine. Fitted with a corn head it picks, husks and shells (takes the grain off the cob) in one step. Big boxy looking thing with huge teeth on the front. It stores the grain in a large open box. There is a tube with an auger that empties the box and is usually done into a truck or wagon pulled along side. That grain is then hauled to the bin and put in the bin with a portable elevator run by a tractor PTO. Eats up around 10 rows at 4 mph.

The girl from Virginia did it by hand and had never seen a combine, thus her confusion.
