Tim,

If

1. A sample of ice from somewhere in the arctic indicates no melting over 50,000,000 years.

and

2. Ice at the coldest place in the arctic (north pole) is currently melting.

The only logical conclusion is that the north pole is the warmest it has been in 50,000,000 years. The only place that the ice could have moved from, is someplace warmer.
