Pete, just two more points, and then I'll let you have the last word:

1) The benchmarks you provided me seem very suspicious. All of the results are contributed by hobbyists. How trustworthy is that? And how do I know that the benchmarks themselves are optimized for Pentium III? They don't even use SSE, but they do use 3DNow. (To be fair, the guy who wrote the benchmarks did say that he tried optimizing for SSE, but he ran into problems.)

2) All this prejudging of the Willamette architecture is useless. It amazes me to see some people going to such great lengths to lambaste an architecture without knowing all the details or even seeing any benchmark results. We'll know for sure once the benchmark results are seen (both current and future). Then people can start passing judgement on the architecture of the CPU. Until then, all this bickering is just serving to expose prejudices.
