<<Orchard. I mis-spoke, 20 bales at a cost of 40 dollars. >>

Orchard is good. Low enough protein you can still feed a little sweet feed and make those nags love you. $2 a bale seems to be right in line. You didn't get screwed.

<<If it rains before the first of September (fat chance), the guy'll have another cutting and I can pick up the winter hay from the field for cheaper.>>

Some storms heading into the Gulf. Don't know how far you are inland but you should get some rain. Third cuttings don't have the same leaf populations (alfalfa) nor the seed heads on orchard grass. Means more sweet feed. Or just buying some corn and oats, mixing them in a bowl and letting the critters eat. Makes you feel good.

<<I've taken to biscuits and thicknin' gravy for breakfast. That gets ya going for the day. Fry up a couple of pieces of bacon, feed that to the dogs just to cut down a bit, and then do up some gooooooood gravy. >>

I confess, I cook up canned bisquits. Shoot me. Now gravy. I cook up sausage slow and easy in an electric skillet. Prop one end up to get rid of too much grease. Skim some grease but leave the black stuff. Add some flour, make a roue, tad of butter, stir. Add milk and stir, some paprika, black and red pepper. Really stir. Add ground, cooked sausage, more milk, stir like you're touching a lover. When she gets thick enough pour over the bisquits and eat it.

I'm the gravy man. I had a neighbor ask, and I did, make gravy for her Thanksgiving dinner.
