If they lower the price of a Porsche engine by $1000, and subsequently lower the price of a Porsche by $500, would you rush out to buy one?

What percentage of the system price is a $1000 CPU? Do you think the assumptions you are making are reasonable?

If you ask about a Porsche engine costing $20,000 vs an overall car price of $40,000 then, yes, I do think that reducing the engine to $10,000 and consequently the car price to, say, $32,000 would have a significant affect on demand.
