I hasn't melted, they are seeing pools of standing water or open water in what has heretofore been permanent ice pack. Floating ice pack.

yes, i know...apparently it is not really that unusual in the larger geological picture. at least that's what i glean from the debate that has resulted. it would be worrisome if the ice were to melt very fast and in big amounts, but the amount of ice has varied throughout earth's history...and usually the processes involved are very slow from a human time scale PoV. i don't think we'll wade in surplus water anytime soon because of this...famous last words...glugg...:)
