Scumbia, Re..<<Ocean water melts at a much lower temperature than 32F.<<<<

I believe most of ice in polar cap comes from freesing snow or condensation because as air gets colder, the humidity condensates. Anyway I read about the selling of glacier ice to Japan because polar ice crackles as it melts so it must be fairly pure. I also think salt water freezes (not ocean) at approx. 31 degrees. There isn't a great difference. Also, if it was from air temp. being over melting temp. the whole North pole area would be melting, not just a small area, because you would need a heat source (usually oceans by equator)to heat air and it would have to travel over a long distance; so there should be signs of path of warm air..

My knowledge of arctic is limited but here is an interesting piece Many of the numerical global climate models predict significant warming in the Arctic region, particularly in winter, for a build-up of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations. However, as seen in the floating ice records, no overall or winter warming was observed by the scientists over the 1954 to 1990 period of data collection. Although many Soviet observers afloat on the ice must have prayed for warmer temperatures, their prayers remained unanswered, despite the promise of global (and Arctic) warming.
