BroadSoft (Hot Start Up):

BroadSoft, the Leading Provider of Software for Next-Generation Telephony Services, Announces Expansion into Canada Company Opens New Research and Development Facility in Montreal; Appoints New Management Staff to Lead Local Team

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Aug 21, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- BroadSoft, Inc., the leading provider of service delivery systems for next generation telephony services, announced today the opening of a research and development facility in Montreal, Canada, that will focus on software engineering. BroadSoft's international expansion will enable the company to leverage the rich pool of engineering talent in Montreal and surrounding areas.

BroadSoft's flagship product, BroadWorks(TM), enables integrated communications providers (ICPs) to rapidly enter new markets with packet-based Class 5 local exchange and Centrex services such as call waiting, voice mail, conferencing, auto-attendant and follow-me-anywhere services. BroadSoft was the first company to launch a service delivery system that allows service providers to rapidly deploy next-generation, packet-based Centrex services over any network infrastructure.

BroadSoft recently received $23 million (U.S.) in second round venture funding. These funds are helping the company expand to meet the growing demand for BroadWorks. "A key part of BroadSoft's expansion is the opening of our Canadian facility," said Michael Tessler, founder, president and CEO of BroadSoft. "We feel that the resource of highly experienced engineers, led by Daniel Pambianchi in Montreal, will be a great asset to BroadSoft's continued product development and growth."

Pambianchi, the new director of software engineering, will manage the expansion of the new office for BroadSoft. Pambianchi brings over 15 years of engineering experience from Nortel, where he most recently worked in product management for optical networking products. Prior to the optical networking group, Pambianchi managed verification software development for telephony and switching networks.

"BroadSoft's opening of a Montreal office represents not only an excellent opportunity for the local community of software engineers, but also indicates recognition of Montreal as a center for technical and engineering talent by a leading and highly innovative telephony software company," said Pambianchi. He added that he is currently recruiting additional software engineers.

The opening of the Canadian office comes at a time when BroadSoft's BroadWorks is beginning general availability. BroadSoft has announced two innovative service providers in the U.S. that have chosen BroadWorks for the deployment of enhanced services; Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), ITL Metro, and telephony Application Service Provider (ASP), TalkingNets. They selected BroadWorks as a means to rapidly enter new markets with differentiated next-generation communications services that will allow them to attract and retain customers. Such services are critical to service providers, helping them reduce customer churn in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Both service providers will deploy services based on BroadWorks next quarter. The new office will be located at 1 Place Holiday Tour Est., Suite 115, Pointe-Claire, Quebec, H9R 5N3.
