One further point that particularly struck me was how this appears to be a good example of a disruptive technology as set out in Christensen's The Innovator's Dilemma.

We have one high end company (EMC) and one low end (NTAP) moving towards each other in the middle market. According to Christensen it is very difficult for a company to defend (or attack) downwards.

South, thanks for making the EMC/NTAP a little less murky. As of today, I am 8% NTAP and 5% EMC, and happy with both. My take is that they will both grow like mad, and that NTAP will do better than EMC as an investment because it is growing from a smaller base.
