Touchy, touchy, neo...<g> Forgot you were a "neo" yourself.

What I meant to say was that neo-conservatism, as a movement under that name, was "late to the party." I did not have in mind the gradual changes that may, or may not, have been occurring over the decades within the minds of such Intellectual Giants as Kristol and Podhoretz.

I would also dispute your contention that they were "the bulk of the anti-communist liberals." They may have been the bulk of those who wrote for cliquey magazines like The Partisan Review, but they accounted for a tiny, tiny proportion of the people in this country who considered themselves "anti-Communist" liberals.
