Well, my exposure is limited to those whom I met who got internships with conservative foundations, or a handful of emigres from various Eastern bloc countries who tended to hang out with conservatives. The regular exchange students I have met have generally a high opinion of Reagan, but I have no recollection of them mentioning Carter.

Why would they despise Carter? For not taking the Soviet threat seriously enough, at least until after he was burned in Afghanistan and Nicaragua, and encouraging European neutralism and Soviet adventurism.

I remember an interview I once saw with Helmut Schmidt, a leader I admire immensely who had had to work with Carter. The interviewer kept trying to get him to give his opinion of Carter, and he,in impeccable English, and with true class, kept trying to beg off and get away with a few bromides. The interviewer was oaf enough to persist, until Schmidt was forced to put his foot down and refuse to say anything substantive. It was clear that he had nothing good to say about Carter as a president..........
