Yes, and I think that romantic love and placing women on pedestals are part of the same trend. The western conception of romantic love had a watershed in the Middle Ages, and one of the reasons is the growing veneration of the Virgin Mary, the perfect vessel and mother of God, Queen of Heaven, who was compassionate and would be especially likely to intercede with her Son on our behalf. Don't get me wrong, the high regard for women was through the prism of feminine expectation: they were softer, gentler, kinder, more delicate, more nurturing. They were idealized in stereotypical ways. But they were idealized.....
