But you don't know the GHz range of the 100nm gates parts. So maybe you shouldn't worry?

Perhaps not. shrinking the gerneral dimension to 0.13u will not only reduce cost, but also give a performance boost due to lower interconnect capacitance. Then, they can use low-k dielectrics to further lower capacitance. And, they can use SOI to lower capacitance and power.

Actually, I'm starting to think that the surprise that Jerry was talking about for the Mustang core may indeed be SOI. Motorola will be presenting a paper at this years MPF outlining the use of SOI in their new Ghz PowerPC processor.

It could be that AMD and MOT have jointly developed this process, and that AMD will be introducing it with Mustang. THis would explain how they are going to get low power Corvettes.
