Gore Leads Bush 50% to 45% in Washington Post-ABC News Poll
By Nick Nabarro

Washington, Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential nominee Al Gore leads his Republican rival George W. Bush by 5 percentage points after the Democratic National Convention, the Washington Post reported, citing a Washington Post-ABC News Poll.

Gore has 50 percent of the vote to the Texas governor's 45 percent, reversing the 9 point lead that Bush held two weeks ago, according to the poll of 896 registered voters Friday through Monday.

The poll suggests that Gore has successfully answered the questions of whether he is a leader and whether he could be seen as warm and personable, traits which voters have become accustomed to during the Clinton administration, the newspaper said.

This is the first time that a Post-ABC survey has shown Gore leading the race and comes at a time when voter preference historically solidifies and uncommitted voters become fewer, the Post said.

In this poll, Gore is viewed as the best candidate to help the middle class, the most able to manage the economy and the most able candidate to improve the health-care system. He has also gained support among women and other traditional Democratic voters.

Bush is still viewed as personally appealing by two-thirds of voters, the poll

I like the world fine. It's just people like you in it that screws it up. I don't sit anywhere for very long. If you check around, you'll find that you sit on your butt at that computer a hell of a lot more than I do. I get out and have things to do. Gore is the first on NOT to change. IF things change, he and you both are out in the, proverbial, cold on your lazy butts. I have been around long enough to have seen America in a lot of stages of development, and decline. The best of times are with Republican (better defined as Conservative) administrations. I am not talking about the easy bucks in your filthy pocket, but the quality of life. The most common result of a Democratic Administration, is the beginning of a war to bail their butts out of the political hole they got themselves into, and then they leave their mess for the Republican's to clean up. I'm a long way from being smothered, little boy. As I recall, you are the one that complained so much about the air, when you first started posting on this thread. ~H~
