Mark: yep...thought it was VERY coincidental. In Houston, though, I did not have to worry about snow, just flood waters. <g> My holes did not take much discovering....they were open, obvious, and plentiful.

The funniest thing that ever happened to me in a car:

About 15 years ago, I had a Datsun 510 with the same kind of floor-level ventilation you're describing.

In the winter, I'd stuff newspapers and rags in all of the holes in the front floorboards to help keep some of the heat in.

One night I was driving home from work during a real slushy snowstorm. The defroster wasn't doing much good so I could barely see the taillights in the distance. They seemed to be off to both sides of the road, though, so I kept on going at about 40 mph.

Suddenly, I'm stopped. And blind. And I can taste salty slush. Oh, and I'm soaking wet. How'd that happen? And why are my feet nowhere near the pedals?

I ease off to the side of the road wondering how this alternate reality had suddenly landed on me. And why alternate realities so frequently start with a newspaper covering one's face.

First evidence I notice is that my jacket is not only wide open, it's plastered against the seat. I look all around for my glasses and finally find them in the back seat. Weird. And what's with all these wet rags and newspapers strewn about the car?

Yep. What I'd encountered was a very deep puddle (more like a pond) in the middle of the road and it was made up of water, slush, and road salt. It had come through the floor with a ton of force.

I laughed myself silly all the rest of the way home.

And of course, that little 510 didn't miss a beat.
