Although this is primarily a copper merger, Noranda is the world's 12th largest gold producer. Also, the most interesting aspect of the merger is Noranda will immediately split Rio Algom 50/50 with Codelco and jointly mange the assets. It would not surprise me to see some of the larger gold firms buy smaller firms, then either joint venture them or split up the assets.

action on KGC started yesterday..up 11% today which I'll take! Was doing a SI search for posts and found yours. Personally, I bought KGC for two equal reasons. An overbought U.S. dollar and the distinct possibility of someone making a bid for Kinross at these depressed levels.
