Re: Mobile Wireless - Motorola(sym:MOT) and GPRS Handsets

slacker and Thread- Well maybe I spoke too soon about it being 2002 before the next generation of handsets contribute to top line growth. Apparently MOT is supposed to have theirs ready by year end. It'll be interesting to watch the take rate on these phones. It takes at least two years before the average cell phone user is ready to get a new one. Maybe the Internet access capabilities of the new handsets will accelerate this to a year? I have my doubts but will be watching closely. -MikeM(From Florida)

Motorola sees GPRS phones on sale in Q4

STOCKHOLM, Aug 25 U.S. mobile phone to chips company Motorola Inc expects to have its first third-generation GPRS mobile phones on the market in the fourth quarter of this year, Motorola executive Jessica Frithiof said on Friday.

``I haven't got the exact roll-out plan but we're planning for that,'' Frithiof, Motorola's product manager for wireless applications in the Nordic/Baltic region, told Reuters Television.

Frithiof was talking one day after Motorola, the world's second biggest mobile phone maker, signed a deal with Sweden's Melody Interactive Solutions to develop the market for mobile e-mail, a market which needs the third-generation technology.

GPRS technology allows mobile phone users to access the Internet.
