Gene, INTC strategy was always to milk the high ends for its margins, and history shows that what this year is "high end" is next year's mainstream and the year after "cheapies". If RDRAM is indeed the solution for the high end systems this year, I do not see any reason that by next year RDRAM will not become the mainstay of the mainstream. The real question is if AMD can get a processor at 2 Ghz to operate rationally with a memory which is not RDRAM (like DDR), right now, my guess is that AMD is gambling on DDR MOBO being available for their high end devices, a risky gamble, IMHO, since DDR still need to go through the same debugging and glitch fighting RDRAM has gone through. Mr. Murphy is still around as Carl will assuredly tell you.
