did not mean to sound patronizing, sorry. But repurchase needs to be dissected properly that is if there is actual reduction in shares or just larger bonuses to top management :-))

Re:expect dividends at some point

that is a common argument in finance books for the companies that do not pay nor plan to pay any dividends in the near future. The reality is that in that case you would not care about dividends and the only strategy would be "the greater fool"

Now on the topic:

insuarnce world reported their few comments
(dated 8/17 but just made it to bloomberg today)

1)company's operational profits are positive and stable, the negative earnings are really due to one time charges
2)company is unlikely to be affected by downgrade as it was expected for a while
3)inforce is very stable in spite of the downgrades even though that the growth slowed down
4)maintain hold on bonds for now

bottom line is (my words) that the company took a hit in asset losses and few other things but the company is stable and valuable.
