Once amazon does that, a new competition will emerge and force Bezos to go back to old ways i.e sell goods at discounted price, which means losses.

Just a thought, but I think you're wrong in thinking that price is all that matters to web shoppers. I seem recall seeing a "study" (or an article) suggesting that price is in fact down the list a ways from reliability, trustworthiness, customer service. We'll see -- it's just going to take a few years to see how the then-leading e-tailer gains (or retains) its leadership.
