I've been uncomfortable with the debt, too. Their earlier projection, for exit debt just under $300 mil, combined with capex below cash flow in '01, sounded to me like what the doctor ordered. Now we're looking at a different prescription. Berkley claimed at the time that they hiked '00 capex to exploit an opportunity; OK, fair enough. But don't lose sight of the objective. It's time to deliver some spectacular results, after which people will be willing to forgive what's at best a very average balance sheet.

These guys frustrate the heck out of me with their absolutely bush league guidance. That's why they've lost their premium multiple. They don't seem to have figured out that people look at the difference between expected and actual; regardless of how good actual is, if it's less than expected, you're gonna get slammed. I don't know why this is such a tough concept for these guys to absorb -- the market's only been trying to send the message for something like 8 or 10 quarters.
