Won't DDR allow lower prices for low-end server systems compared to Direct RDRAM-based systems?

The only value that DDR offers a server is lower pin count. The same bandwidth can be achieved with two SDR ports.

Merced uses 66MHz SDRAM.


I think that the Merced design team lost touch with the real world about 3-4 years ago!

Heck, the embedded Mach-Z chip that I am thinking of using (a 486 core) has a 100Mhz SDRAM bus interface.
