I disagree with you completely. More evidence that we are looking at different things. I "support" ( and by this I mean work for, and vote for) programs aimed at helping at risk kids (for example). Those kids do NOT have adequate survival skills to become really productive members of society as one can see by their mortality statistics and their employment potential. People who "claim" to speak for anyone I look at with a jaundiced eye. I only know my own motives- I don't trust other people's until I see their work. Talk is cheap.

I doubt the children I have worked for and with found my support condescending. Since I still correspond with a few at risk kids I helped mentor in college I know they didn't- or they've hid it well for 15 years. But you know what? It wouldn't matter. If I helped promote literacy and I get thought of as condescending- that's a small price to pay. I don't mind that.

You don't even have any idea who I consider an underdog. I find this discussion with you pointless and annoying at the moment, so I'm off to dinner and a movie with my family.

Mike, some of the work that X does truly is fine and noble. Believe me, she is not the insensitive monster you may think she is.
