the-phoenix: FWIW, and not to take away from what ld has to say, but over at Ragingbull board there is a guy that goes by ArchAngel who knows options inside and out. He would be a good one for you to check with too. Here is his latest post....

the phoenix...sorry if I came across defensive. Frustrating day and week...when I start to trade uncharacteristic of how I normally trade, it time to step away for a day or two for a breather and I did just that yesterday. I need logic to overide emotion and frustration in these situations and that was slipping...if you don't recognize that, it can get pretty expensive. Sorry babbling on you....I mainly look for the most highly liquid strikes on the QQQ's when I trade them. They seem to occur in increments of 5...90, 95, 100. I try to stay away from the first couple of days after expiration because the time premium decay seems to be steep then (unless the market is volatile). The week of expiration I look to see where the heaviest open interest is and the price and do some quick in and out trades at or in the money. If QQQ is trading 93 and you can peg 95 as their target, you can assume were not going past 95 so you can achieve some small gains that way...the spread also shrinks as the time premium has eroded to almost nothing...harder to find buyers then. Usually if I get a 1/4 or better I'm outta there. JMHO
