Morale was bad
They brought that up on NPR (which is really a balanced show for all you Limbaugh fans that don't hear it). There was a lot of dissapointment that the Commander in Chief was not a military veteran. There was also a lot of critisism that the deployment options to current locals, (Bosnia, Kosovo, Middle East) did not have adequate family visitation like they had when it was a cold war and the families could live with them in Europe. There were keen on Gore as a veteran, but the picture was still murkey about deployments in troubled areas, this was something Gore indicated he would think about. I guess the question came down to who would they rather have thinking about the problems? Junior-George was not high on that list.
