Point well taken! Pre-FDR might not be far enough back, though. Pre-Wilson and pre-Internationalism and pre-16th Amendment would best! <g>

As far as attacking the inexorable creep of Fabian Socialism in this country, FDR was the instigator of the payroll withholding tax (well, actually Beardsley Rumel), which makes paying taxes, if not less painful, at least more passive. This is dangerous because people don't realize that they are being robbed. The "net check" mentality has become so ingrained that folks just don't get riled by it.

I'd like to see us do away with tax withholding as a way to focus our minds on the excessiveness of government programs which we could demand be cut back by withholding payment and going to court just like the government is making Microsoft do.

Once people start writing big checks each year for taxes, I think they may be a bit more truculent.

It may not cause a revolution but at least we'd get to keep all our earnings a bit longer. And if some don't pay, they could have their day in court with a jury trial regarding their actual liability.

This is how we could reassert our control over DC. And it would be easier than repealing the 16th Amendment.

Ciao,
Daniel
