OT There were major cutbacks of those programs under the Reagan/Bush era.....a lot of disabled and mentally incompetent people were put out onto the streets. No offense, but I am curious where you get these "facts"? Are you making them up as you go? Joe, My source is myself...I was alive during the 80's, although much younger, and my understanding or memory of the facts is quite different then yours. However, I wonder why you always reduce the issues to liberal vs conservative? My purpose in posting was to point out that tax cuts can lead to problems further down the road....and frankly, I don't care when those cuts occurred....the results remain the same. It is clear to me from this and other posts that you feel our system works well and that you prefer as little government as possible. And that's fine. I disagree to some extent and that's fine too. Frankly I don't like discussions like this since they rarely change anyones mind and tend to cause hard feelings. In addition because of the nature of the threads, we tend to think we know each other when in fact, we know very little. So I don't know your background and point of reference nor you mine. Therefore I believe its best to drop the subject before this becomes a major dispute. ted
