According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, the 30-day (from July 6 to Aug. 4) rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAM microchips (PC133, 16M x 8) for large-volume users registered US$15.50 in North America, US$15.55 in Europe, and US$14.05 in Asia. ICIS-LOR is based in London, Houston and Singapore. Compared to the 30-day rolling average prices up to July 28, the prices rose by 2.63 percent in North America, by 2.49 percent in Europe, and by 3.34 percent in Asia. The spot DRAM prices in the United States declined 1.86 percent to US$16.44, declined 0.25 percent to US$16.97 in Europe, and rose 0.23 percent to US$16.88 in Asia. As for memory modules, the spot prices for 128MB DIMMs (PC133) declined by 0.89 percent from the previous week to US$134.75 in North America and fell 1.02 percent to US$135.01 in Europe. However, in Asia the spot price rose by 0.58 percent to US$135.14. Tight supplies will likely continue until October when demand is boosted for the year-end sales season. DRAM prices will probably stay at the current level and thus large increases in memory capacity of PCs aren't expected.
