Welcome to G&K, John. Mike has had some glowing things to say about your analytical work at MF, and I'm looking forward to your participation here and your opinions about sebl in particular. It's always an honor to find a new member of SI has selected our thread for their first post.

Fred Manzo runs our Welcome Wagon, and has put together an excellent faq to help you acclimate to our somewhat esoteric site:

John,

Though I'd bet my last dollar that you've already recieved more than one welcome here, I've just gotta add mine and at the same time use it as an excuse to explain to the thread a little bit about why I'm so excited about having you joining us.

Gang,

I came to "know" John through his participation in the Fool's Gorilla Game thread. As good as the thread is, it's requirements about RTFM are a little less stringent than here. :) In fact, I had the pleasure of sending John his copy of the manual so he could be fully qualified to participate among our band of cohorts here at SI.

If you don't recognize his real and screen name, my suggestion is that you immediately sign up for a subscription to the Fool's reports on companies. When you do, ask for all past reports written about Siebel. John wrote them and they're absolutely terrific.

But the really ground-breaking stuff most people aren't aware of is John's attempt to quantify the CAP of a company. His model for doing that was "broken in" on no less of a Gorilla than Microsoft. Sadly, I haven't taken the time to peruse the details but a couple long plane rides to and from Peru in the next couple of weeks will surely afford me that opportunity. (My apologies, John, for taking SO long to getting around to it.) Seriously folks, I'm not aware of anyone attempting to publicly measure in specific quantitative terms the CAP of a company. As you can imagine, the mere thought of it causes a valuation junkie's heart rate to move to hypergrowth.

Yep, I've been looking forward a long time to having John join us. I'm glad it finally happened!
