Tony,

You can get a dual PIII Compaq server, starting for a little over half of that 10K, including hot pluggable drives, integrated NIC, integrated RAID control...real server features. Dell will probably sell the same thing to you cheaper, as they sell on price alone more than anyone these days.

Agreed, but the prices are a little higher. I came up with a Gateway system that looked like a POS for about $5,000, Dell for about $7,000 and Compaq and IBM for about $10,000 - single processor, dual capable with ServerWorks chipsets and some nice features.

If money was no object, I would opt for Compaq DL-380 system, based on my research with IBM running second.
