Hi Arrow, hope all is well. It's really too bad about the Thinkpad line, it's one of the bright spots in the IBM PC universe. They seem to do this on a fairly regular basis, as I distinctly recall shortages on models in the past also. As for sole sourcing, I hear you, although I think our friend Michael Dell hears you much more clearly, at least in regard to his sole source MPU supplier <ggg>. Speaking of Dell, the few remaining Dellheads on the Dell thread still make occassional noises about IBM giving up and having Dell build the boxes for them. It does not look to me as if this is the direction IBM is going in based on their current direct efforts. Your thoughts on IBM's chances?? I use a Compaq workstation at home for trading, bought it because I could direct order it with a Matrox video card that supports four LCD's off one card. Could not do that with the Intellistation unless I started messing around with buying additional video cards myself and installing them. I've been that route in the past and preferred to buy a preloaded and prebuilt package. Lots of Thinkpads around the house though, and I love buying them via the employee discount available thru relatives I have at IBM <ggg>.

Best regards,
John

Elizabeth Mackay, Bear Sterns, was on Bloomberg TV this morning with market commentary and stock picks. One of her picks was IBM: PC demand to pick up in second half of the year; reasonably valued for a leading tech co.
