dale, <The fact is that AMD projects that the Duron will outsell Athlon by 3:1>

This is a total fabrication and obviously incorrect. There won't be more than 1 million Durons this quarter, which means there will be 2.6 million Athlons (and about 3.4 million K6's).

Even if AMD had zero growth in Athlon sales in Q4 (fat chance), AMD would have to make and sell 7.8M Durons in Q4 to meet your prediction. This is obviously inconsistent with AMD's prediction that Athy plus Duron production will total 7.6M in Q4.

Furthermore, the high end market will have new products in Q4 and Q1 to further increase the share of high end processors.

Maybe you know the Intel roadmap better -- how many "hundreds of thousands" of P4's will Intel sell in Q4? If AMD sells 3,500,000 Athlons, how much will the existence of X00,000 P4's affect the price paid for the 3,500,000 Athlons?
