I think you are confused, David. The President proposes and the Congress disposes. Reagans budgets were always classified as Dead on Arrival by the democratic congress. The Congress controls the pursestrings. The democratic congress was very loose in spending our tax dollars in the 80's. That continued until the Republicans took over in 1994 and they brought some restraint into the picture. The people who control the money are Congress. Clinton received a giant, although frustrating for him, blessing for his time in office thanks to a Republican Congress placing some control on spending. If democrats would have been in control we would probably have many more new spending programs and no budget surplus.

Either you didn't live through it or you are reading cock-eyed history books. The economic expansion that followed the high inflation and stagnation (inherited from Carter and Ford) were considered the greatest expansion in the history of the U.S. at the time.

The debt was being piled up by a Democratic Congress. They spent, spent and spent some more.

You conveniently forget who appropriates and authorizes the Gov't funds. Do you know what that means? Yes, the deficit went up under Reagan when the Democrats controlled the house of reps, where the spending bills originate. Try going to the library and picking up a civics book. The deficit was projected to be over 200 billion a year under Clinton until the Republicans took control of Congress. Quit spewing your lies.knc

Reagan's programs worked. Revenues exploded but the profligate Dem Congress spent all the revenue and then some.

This economy succeeds despite Clinton's lame brain economic policy because the Repubs. have kept him from writng all the checks he wanted. Remember how long Bubba said it would take to balance the budget?? JLA
