Sorry but the economy succeeds because of the Republicans. The stock market which was basically flat to down during Clinton's first two years in office took off only after the Republicans gained control of Congress. Much of the "surplus" is actually coming from the capital gains taxes. I wonder if the Republican tax cut in the capital gains rate from 28% to 20% had anything to do with it? The Republicans also pushed balanced budget initiatives. Probably most importantly we are reaping the peace dividends brought about by the downfall of the soviet bloc. The budget deficits of the 80's was a small price to pay. Thank you President Reagan!
