Both posts are accurate. Inalienable rights cannot be decided by whim or popular vote. That they are unalienable means they are immutable.

If people in a democracy "decide" a right is no longer "inalienable" that does not change the fact that it still is. People could vote that the sun appears to rise in the Western sky, but it would still be perceived to rise in the Eastern sky even if a majority refused to recognize that fact.

There are Truths that are self-evident, as the Declaration of Independence points out. They will continue to bear the torch of truth now, or 1000 years from now. No amount of collectivism or armies of spin doctors can change those Truths. They are timeless.
