I didn't call it a Democratic war. It was LBJs war. Actually the archives show that JFK was going to get us out. He was assassinated and Johnson took over. Johnson had a war table set up in the oval office. Like Adolf Hitler, he overrode his generals and conducted the war himself.

We were lucky Hitler chose to do so; and the North Vietnamese were lucky Johnson chose to do so.
