Carter was a decent man and still is. I am not "extremist" about him. I simply point out the facts and the chilling reality of the situation. I don't think there was any other president who trusted the Soviets as far as they could throw the White House.

Sam Donaldson was shocked, I was shocked, and many of my friends and acquaintances were shocked because Carter was bewildered by their "betrayal." He actually trusted the Soviets. Quite a frightening thing to observe about the, then, American Commander-in-Chief.
